Griezmann and Morata Steer Atlético Madrid to First-Leg Advantage over Former Club Dortmund

Atlético Madrid claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

Antoine Griezmann Heads Home

After a slow start to the match, Atlético broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute. Antoine Griezmann rose highest to head home a cross from Nahuel Molina, giving the visitors a crucial away goal.

Dortmund Fight Back

Dortmund responded well to going behind and leveled the scores just before half-time. Jude Bellingham's perfectly weighted pass found Karim Adeyemi, who fired into the bottom corner. Donyell Malen put Dortmund ahead in the 53rd minute, tapping in after a cross from Julian Brandt.

Madrid Equalize and Claim Advantage

However, Atlético refused to let their lead slip away. João Félix equalized for the visitors in the 74th minute, slotting home from close range. In the 85th minute, Álvaro Morata headed in the decisive goal, giving Madrid a slender advantage heading into the second leg.

Oblak Impresses

Atlético goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a number of crucial saves to preserve his team's lead. The Slovenian shot-stopper was in inspired form, denying Dortmund on several occasions.

Second Leg in Madrid

The second leg of the tie will take place at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on March 15th. Dortmund will need to score at least twice to progress, while Atlético will be looking to defend their advantage and book a place in the semi-finals.
